A custom-made bedding for the best bedding, that meets the farmer's wishes and a place where the demand at home and abroad can be met on a large scale. - That was the starting point for Berg's own production location, which is located in Kampen.
In recent years, the importance of good quality has stable bedding increasingly come to the attention of farmers. Since 2018, the national average cell count has increased annually and it became necessary to look at how environmental factors play a role. By setting up a professional production location where custom-made bedding is produced, Berg can respond to this demand. This creates a hygienic and dry bedding for the cow and thus makes a positive contribution to animal health and economic growth in the entire livestock farming sector. This blog explains how Berg produces its unique mixtures, be sure to watch the video at the bottom of the article!
A unique recipe
"A unique recipe has been put together for each custom-made litter based on the required ingredients in the correct mixing ratio," says Wiechert Steert, director of the production location in Kampen. This recipe is created through consultation with the farmer and the advice of our sales advisors. The recipe is then loaded onto the shovel operator's computer and he sees how many kilos of which ingredient he needs to take and how much is in his loading bin at that moment. This is a process that is accurate to the kilo, so that the farmer receives exactly the mixture as ordered.

Industrial mixing – homogeneous and consistent quality
The mixing is done with an industrial mixing installation. "This way a homogeneous mixture of constant quality can be delivered," according to Frank van Kerkhof, General Manager at Berg. He expects that the demand for good bedding and concepts will continue to increase and that this will also allow the scale of the production location to grow further. This will allow Berg to continue to supply an economically interesting product in the long term.
Freshly mixed and loaded immediately
The litter is loaded directly onto the truck after mixing, so that the farmer always gets a fresh product. Loading takes place inside the loading street. "We have no wind or rain here, and that improves the quality of the mixture," says Wiechert Steert.

Mixing yourself with a feed mixer is a thing of the past
Wiechert Steert: "A major advantage of our mixtures is that we have a wide range of raw materials and mix a litter for every situation. Long straw, short straw, fine flax, coarse flax and various types of lime. It also saves the farmer a lot of valuable working time and reduces wear and tear on his feed mixer." The raw materials for our mixtures are carefully selected and extensively tested so that the quality of our mixtures is guaranteed.
