The DCA Milk Price Index for May continues its upward march. The index increases by more than €1,23 per 100 kilos to €55,62 per 100 kilos. Once again, this is mainly due to two large Dutch processors increasing their payout prices.
Depending on the prices that other processors still determine for this month, the Index for April can still change. A first provisional index is calculated when the prices of 75% or more of the milk volume that the processors in question represent are known.
The increase in the index for May is still somewhat behind that of April. With one milk price to go, the index for April has increased by €1,32 per 100 kilos compared to March, the provisional index for May has increased by €1,23 per 100 kilos. The value of the dairy package has decreased somewhat in the meantime.
The Milk Price Index for the Netherlands was introduced in March by DCA Market Intelligence. For dairy farming, it is an additional instrument to objectively monitor the overall development of milk prices. It also enables professionals in the dairy sector to get an overview of market developments in various links in the chain at a glance.
The index is calculated on an annual basis based on the milk volume of the eight separate processors that are also included in the Boerenbusiness Dutch Milk price calculatorThe index is based on these prices for farm milk, excluding allowances and premiums for, among other things, grazing and other sustainability goals.
