Smaller beet area
According to Frank Waijers, director of Duynie Feed, pressed pulp is a reliable product that is 'in high demand'. In combination with a smaller area sugar beets, has caused the price to rise this year. "A lower beet area simply means less pressed pulp, apart from the uncertainty that still exists about how the growing season will go." According to Waijers, the smaller area does not only affect parent company Cosun, but concerns the whole of North-West Europe.
On the other hand, fewer cows can be fed in the Netherlands due to the stoppers, Waijers acknowledges. "This also affects us, because a number of customers participate in the scheme." However, the number of stoppers does not decrease proportionally with the area. According to him, the higher price given does justice to the balance in the market. Waijers realizes that the higher price is given at a time when many raw materials such as wheat and soy are relatively low in price. "Of course you also take this into account, but we expect that the raw material prices are currently at rock bottom and will probably rise again in the long term."
Cigarette
The price of cigarant this year will be €2,20 per percent dry matter. Just like with pressed pulp this is also €0,20 higher last year.
Pre-sales for both foods begin today and will run until the end of this month, or while supplies last.
