The Dutch milk supply figures have recovered surprisingly quickly in recent months towards the level of last year. In terms of liquid volume, the supply in April was still just below the level of 2024, but due to higher contents in the milk, the fat production...
Figures from RVO show that Dutch milk supply last month amounted to 1.176.023 tonnes. Compared to the same month in 2024, this is a decrease of 0,1%. In March, supply was still 1,5% below last year's level. Daily production last month amounted to 39.200 tonnes, compared to 38.447 a month earlier. Historically, the seasonal increase continues until May.
Higher fat production
The average fat content in April was 4,54% compared to 4,52% a year earlier. Due to the higher contents, fat production increased by 0,3% to 53.388 tonnes compared to the same month a year earlier. The last time fat production in our country showed green figures was in August 2023.
Spot market
The higher supply figures in the Netherlands are also reflected in the spot market. While the payout prices have now passed the level of €55 per 100 kilos, the DCA quotation for spot milk is moving at €47 per 100 kilos. The fairly large gap between the payout prices and the spot milk prices indicates that there are few buyers for the surpluses in the market. At the same time, the supply of spot milk in the Netherlands is not very large, which means that according to traders there is a thin market.
