Milk production in the United States shows an upward trend. The growth of the supply volumes in April was higher than the previous month. This is mainly because Texas has started producing a lot more milk.
At 8,43 million tons, milk supply in the 24 major states was 1,6% higher than last year. This shows that growth is accelerating, because in the previous months the percentage differences were smaller. April is a record volume, although this is not unique in the US due to the increasing production in previous years.
The increased production is a result of extra cows that also started producing more milk. With 8,98 million cows, there is an increase of almost 100.000 animals in one year.
Significantly more milk in Texas
At the state level, there are some big outliers. For example, production in Texas increased by more than 10% last month, while in Washington a decrease of 4,5% is visible. In California, the decrease has decreased to less than 2%, which means that the effect of bird flu on milk production is becoming less and less noticeable.
Experts expect the situation to normalize, in the sense that the number of outbreaks will continue to decline. So far, 766 companies have been affected, of which 630 have been released from quarantine, California authorities announced this week.
