The member councils and members of the cooperatives Arla, DMK and DOC Kaas have voted in favour of the proposal of the cooperative boards to merge by a large majority. The cooperative boards are pleased with this. They see this as an important milestone on the road to uniting two already large European dairy companies.
Jan Toft Nørgaard, CEO of Arla Foods, said in a press release: "I would like to thank the dairy farmers for their active participation. The approval from the members confirms our shared belief that Arla and DMK Group are stronger together. By combining mutually reinforcing strengths, we can secure a more sustainable and innovative dairy sector for the future, while continuing to generate added value for dairy farmers and partners."
Guus Mensink, Chairman of the Board of DOC Kaas: "At DOC Kaas and DMK we share the same values as Arla, we have the same approach to our work and a common vision for the future of the dairy industry. I am very pleased that our member dairy farmers have approved the merger today and thus support our approach. I would therefore like to thank all members who have shown that they believe in the power of this idea, because I am convinced that this is a good decision."
The next step towards a full merger is approval by the competition authorities.
