Belgian milk prices have seen a significant jump in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. And not only that, but processors have also seen a shift. While Vreugdenhil and FrieslandCampina were the top payers last year, A-ware and FrieslandCampina are now the top payers, closely followed by LDA.
The relatively high payout prices in the first half of this year are partly attributable to the high dairy market in the second half of 2024. On average, payout prices in the first half of this year also rose less sharply than in the same period last year. For some processors, they even fell. See also the Boerenbusiness Belgian Milk Price Comparator.
All in all, this results in a completely different ranking of payers. FrieslandCampina, a relatively small player in Belgium, holds its own in second place. But the highest payer this year (based on base price) is A-ware.
Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods was the highest payer last year, but only for three months, as the company didn't formally receive its first Belgian milk until April 2024. This year, Vreugdenhil has been overtaken by several competitors.
Among the purely Belgian companies, it is noticeable that both Laiterie des Ardennes (LDA) and Milcobel have moved up slightly in the first half of 2025 compared to the first half of 2024. LDA moved from 4th to 3rd place, Milcobel went from 6th to 5th place and therefore now pays a better basic price than Arla.
The average basic price paid in the first half of 2024 for the six processors in the Milk Price Comparator was Boerenbusiness This amounted to €43,80 per 100 liters. The average milk price for the first half of 2025 was €52,85 per 100 liters, an increase of €9,05.
