Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods' Scharsterbrug production facility is getting a new, heavier-duty electricity cable. Grid operator Liander has begun construction.
The new connection is necessary for new, sustainable applications and to enable electric transport. Trucks must always be able to charge.
The new connection provides space for, among other things, an electric boiler for steam production, heat pumps for heat reuse, and further electrification of the spray dryers. With this, Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods is taking a significant step towards lower CO₂ emissions and future-proof production of high-quality milk powder.
Drying milk powders purely with electricity is already happening here and there, but it's still in its infancy. It requires a lot of power.
Liesbeth Wierda, factory manager in Scharsterbrug: "With this investment, we ensure that our factory in Friesland can continue to develop and become more sustainable. In this way, we contribute to a dairy farming and food industry that is ready for the future."
The new cable is expected to be operational by mid-2026. From that point on, the factory will be able to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
