Dairy giant Danone reports optimistic growth

29 October 2025 - Klaas van der Horst

Food giant Danone published its third-quarter results this week, reporting 4,8% higher sales than the same period last year. However, compared to the second quarter of 2025, sales are much slower, despite successes in China and Northeast Asia.

Danone is performing exceptionally well in certain product groups and regions. The Specialized Nutrition division (infant and medical nutrition) in China/Northeast Asia achieved record sales (+13,8%). Results in this segment are also above average in Europe/North Africa/Middle East and South America.

In North America, things could have gone the same way if Danone had had more production capacity, grumbled CFO Jürgen Esser during the presentation of the quarterly figures. Demand for "high-protein" products is unstoppable.

Elsewhere in the world and in the Water division, things are not going so well. The Essential Dairy & Plant-based (EDP) division is somewhere in between.

The final result, especially when converted into euros, is not entirely positive. While revenue of €6.876 million is higher than in the same quarter last year, it is still €15 million lower than in the previous quarter (Q2) of this year. This is largely due to exchange rate fluctuations and hyperinflation in various sales markets.
