Aflatoxin: Advice on maize from Brazil tightened

The animal feed organization GMPPlus has raised the warning level for the use of Brazilian corn from medium to high. However, this has no further consequences for members of Securefeed, which includes most Dutch animal feed producers, says director Rien Huige.

Huige cannot say whether all Dutch animal feed containing excessive aflatoxin has been recalled. At the end of last week, Agrifirm reported that it was in the final stages of the recall operation. This company, in particular, had received a large quantity of contaminated corn.

This involved French corn containing excessive aflatoxin levels. According to Securefeed, no aflatoxin exceedances have yet been found in Brazilian corn in the Netherlands. Therefore, increased monitoring is being conducted, as the toxin-producing mold can spread rapidly during transit.
