FrieslandCampina's milk price plummeted in January, falling below the psychological threshold of €40 per 100 kilos. The last time the guaranteed price was a three was in October 2021.
In January, the guaranteed price dropped by €4 to €39,50 per 100 kilos. Since the decline began in August, €17,25 per 100 kilos has already evaporated. The decline was even more pronounced at the beginning of 2023, but such drastic reductions in such a short period are rare.
In the calculation of Boerenbusiness The basic milk price in January will be €38,54 per 100 kilos. Including the maximum premiums, which are linked to the PlanetProof milk flow, the payout price could rise to €43,54 per 100 kilos. These prices are calculated based on an annual supply of 1 million kilos and the standard fat and protein contents in our country.
Reference companies
It can be concluded that the milk price has not yet bottomed out, despite the relatively mild decrease in December. January is, however, often a weak month for the milk price. In an explanation, FrieslandCampina expects the reference companies to continue lowering their milk prices in the new year.
Milcobel, incidentally, will not be included in this merger, as it will be completed in the new year. No other reference company will replace FrieslandCampina's Belgian merger partner, as cooperative chairman Sybren Attema announced in December.
Organic milk price also lower
After a period of price increases, the organic guaranteed price in January decreased from €0,71 to €68 per 100 kilos. Members also saw their standard seasonal surcharge decrease by €1 to €2 per 100 kilos. In the organic Dutch Milk price calculator FrieslandCampina's milk price in the new year will be €69,72 per 100 kilos. Nevertheless, the difference between conventional and organic milk prices is considerable, at approximately €30 per 100 kilos.
