The Dutch milk supply continues to perform well. Data for December shows that production increased further that month. For 2025 as a whole, the increase is expected, driven by excessive growth in the second half of the year.
Supply in December totaled 1.212.990 tons. This represents a 6,83% increase compared to the same month last year. Supply in December has never been this high. November saw a 7,1% increase.
Yet, there's still no sign of a decline in milk production. Average daily production last month was 39.128 tons, compared to 38.156 tons in November. That's almost 1.000 tons more. The average fat content, at 4,62%, is slightly lower than in 2024.
Heel 2025
For the entire year of 2025, Dutch milk supply will reach 13.992.550 tons. This is the highest level since 2020 and an increase of 1,82% compared to 2024. It is notable that supply remained below 2024 levels for the entire first half of 2025. A clear turnaround has been visible since July, and since October, supply has been above the previous year's level.
Spot milk price extremely low
The rising milk price encouraged a substantial increase in production. Substantially lower feed prices and a productive growing season did the rest. And then there was the disrupted calving pattern due to bluetongue, which meant the production peak arrived later than usual.
The soaring milk supply is taking its toll on the liquid dairy market, with extremely low prices in December. The DCA quotation for Dutch spot milk plummeted to a new low of €4,50 per 100 kilos at the end of last year. The liquid dairy market will continue to be dominated by low prices at the beginning of 2026.
