Cono Cheesemakers has lowered its first milk price of the new year, but only by a relatively modest amount. It is also the only processor so far to still start its base price with a 4.
This can be deduced from an announcement made by the producer of Beemster cheese, among other things. According to the cooperative, the average milk price to be paid (advance) for January is €45,26 per 100 kilos of milk. That is €1,90 less than the price paid in December of last year.
The announcement also indicates that the base price without surcharges will be €41,06 per 100 kilos. The maximum amount to be received would be €47,06. However, Cono has not yet released details of the price structure.
Reasons cited for the price reduction include a continued high milk supply and low prices for "white milk" (concentrate, cream, spot milk), as well as somewhat difficult cheese sales. Compared to the DCA Farmgate Index, which includes the average of Dutch payout prices, the Cono milk price has performed slightly better in recent months.
