The base payout price for standard fat and protein levels and an annual delivery of 1 million kilos amounts to €40,14 per 100 kilos. This puts Cono back in the lead in March, with a substantial lead of nearly €1,50 over the runner-up.
Including surcharges, the payout price can rise to a maximum of €46,14 per 100 kilos. The actual milk price, as communicated by Cono itself, amounts to €44,34. It is striking that the cooperative has clearly recovered with the milk price. Six months ago, Cono was still at the bottom. in the comparison.
Focus on branded cheese
The explanation lies in the strategic direction. Cono is less dependent on the volatile commodity market and is focusing explicitly on branded cheese. The market generally has more stable prices and is less sensitive to rapid declines, such as those visible since last summer. In a rapidly rising market, the opposite is true, and branded cheeses sometimes lag behind.
High whey powder prices
In addition, Cono is benefiting from the strong price development of whey powder. The DCA Market Intelligence benchmark has risen by nearly 50% since the turn of the year to above €1.500 per ton, the highest level in four years. Moreover, a peak in the market does not appear to have been reached yet.
