Cono members foresee significantly lower deferred payments for 2025

29 April 2026 - Klaas van der Horst

Cono members will receive a significantly lower retroactive payment for 2025 than for 2024. The total amount of premiums and other payments is also slightly lower. However, the cash milk price as a whole is higher than in 2025.

This is evident from the annual report that the cooperative has shared with its members. The cash milk price excluding VAT came in at €57,02 per 100 kilos, which is €3,29 higher than the cash price for 2024.

However, the average milk price level in 2025 was also higher than that in 2024. According to the Boerenbusiness Dutch Milk price calculator Last year, an average of over €4,30 more per 100 kilos was paid out in milk than in 2024. A small part of that higher price is attributable to the adjustment of standard milk fat and protein levels as of January 1, 2025, but the impression remains that Cono did not keep up with the average.

The cooperative has also been unable to maintain the supplementary payment at the 2024 level. At that time, a supplementary payment of €1,23 was made; for 2025, an additional 34 cents per 100 kilos can be added. The total premiums for Caring Dairy, Vlog feed, and the like did increase by 61 cents to €4,96 per 100 kilos, but there was no windfall in 2025 due to previously underestimated fat and protein levels in the milk. In 2024, this resulted in 64 cents per 100 kilos in extra milk money.

In particular, the substantially lower supplementary payment is costing Cono points, causing the small North Holland cooperative to lag behind FrieslandCampina, for example. Especially in the first half of 2025, Cono struggled to keep up with the milk price. This is because the company is heavily active in branded cheese, and its price lagged significantly behind that of unbranded bulk cheese.
