In the past week, contractors and intermediaries were able to apply more manure than this week. Still, collection fees may finally drop.
The rain last weekend and the beginning of this week has halted the spreading of manure in many places. A few intermediaries or contractors have tried to see what might be possible, but got stuck or quickly discovered that drawing deep marks is not really the intention.
Only on grassland
On balance, this means that most contractors and intermediaries will only be able to resume their manure spreading activities on Thursday (March 23). It is striking that spreading mainly takes place on grass plots. The spreading of manure on arable land is still at a low level.
Concerns about wet arable land
This situation is reminiscent of the spring of 2016. Some contractors or intermediaries indicate that they are concerned that a situation comparable to last year will not arise. Then rain continually threw a spanner in the works, so many arable farmers eventually opted for artificial fertilizer on the grain plots and no longer for animal manure.
Favorable weather expected
However, the weather forecast until the end of week 13 is favorable. Most of the manure storage facilities are full. Contractors and intermediaries have done the maximum in logistical preliminary work. The collection contributions may decrease because the expected manure spreading options will increase.
