Another step closer

Senate says yes to phosphate rights

23 May 2017 - Herma van den Pol

The Senate has approved the phosphate rights. The House voted on this on Tuesday 23 May. A vote was also taken on the land-based growth of dairy farming act. This is currently still secured through an Order in Council (AMvB).

After the debate on Tuesday 16 May, it was still far from certain that the phosphate rights were in place. Concerns about the bottlenecks and the derogation produced a mixed picture in the House. On Tuesday 23 May, CU, VVD, PvdA, CDA, 50Plus and D66 voted in favour. SP, SGP, PvdD, PVV and GroenLinks voted against.

Rules are already being applied via Order in Council on land-relatedness

Soil-based Growth of Dairy Farming Act
For the phosphate rights it was the turn of the Land-Based Growth Dairy Farming Act. As anticipated, 'yes' was said to that. There were hardly any comments on this during the debate. The rules are already being applied via the Order in Council on land-relatedness. The SGP, CU, PVV, VVD, CDA, PvdA, GroenLink, 50 Plus, SP, D66 voted in favour. The PvdD was against. This means that the law will come into effect on January 1, 2018.

Motions
The motion on a regulation for organic dairy farmers in the context of phosphate rights was rejected. This was done by Vos from GroenLinks. The motion on the public phosphate bank was rejected.

A roll-call vote was held on the motions for grazing and maximum milk production per cow, made by Kofferman (PvdD). The result: for 16 members and 56 members against. The motion was rejected.
