The Dutch manure market has entered calmer waters with regard to trade and the activities of spreading. Where possible, the silos are filled with a view to using manure after the next harvest. This takes place partly in storage facilities at arable farmers and partly in silos that intermediaries have.
The calm in manure movements translates into virtually unchanged collection contributions. This applies to both fattening pig slurry and cattle slurry. The very limited supply of cattle slurry remains striking. On balance, dairy farmers have been able to benefit from the spring when it comes to manure sales.
The supply of fattening pig slurry is sufficient and will have to be tailored to the sales for the arable farmer, through processing or otherwise. The collection contributions are stable for both the central and southern regions. The average price of pig manure is 23 euros per cubic meter in the South and 23,17 euros per cubic meter in the central region. As in previous weeks, cattle farmers pay 16,50 euros in the south region and 16,16 euros in the middle region.
Top level collection contributions
The collection contributions for pig farmers in week 21 are at the same level as in the same week a year ago, around 23 euros per cubic meter. Looking back at the previous years, fertilizer prices were much higher in 2016 and 2017. Prices in the south region fluctuated around 2010 euros per cubic meter in the month of May from 2015 to 18. In the central region, collection contributions were much lower during that period, between 14 and 21 euros. From 2015 onwards, pig farmers in the central region will pay more to get rid of their manure than their colleagues in the south.
Cattle manure increased in price earlier
The same development can also be seen on the cattle slurry market. The only difference is that cattle slurry prices were already at a slightly higher level in the spring of 2015 than in previous years. The difference in price is approximately 5 euros for both the south and central regions in the period 2010 to 2015 and the period after 2015.
