GS .'s plans

Agrifirm also expresses concern about Brabant

June 16, 2017 - Kimberly Bakker - 2 comments

Agrifirm is also concerned about the plans for sustainable livestock farming that the Provincial Executive of Noord-Brabant presented on Wednesday 14 June. According to the company, it is certain that the plans will force many businesses to close.

Agrifirm also expresses concern that the plans will set a precedent for the rest of the Netherlands.

A lot of progress has already been made

Problems for farmers
'The plans of the Provincial Executive will get a certain group of farmers into serious financial and social problems,' says Ronald van de Ven, division director at Agrifirm Feed NWE. 'The sector has already made tremendous progress when it comes to reducing ammonia and nitrogen emissions. Substantial investments have already been made for this and that should not be ignored by the Provincial Executive.'

Bringing concern to the attention
The plans of the Provincial Executive will be discussed on 23 June by the members of the Provincial Council. The decision-making process will take place on 7 July. Agrifirm wants to bring the concerns about the development of the plans and the reaction of its members before then to the attention of the political parties in North Brabant.

Sustainability is necessary
Agrifirm is well aware that further sustainability and improvement of the social embedding of livestock farming is necessary. In doing so, the company will also continue to support the sector and its members. Ronald van de Ven: 'Agrifirm wants to create measurable, relevant and sustainable value, but this approach is far too rigorous.'

POV wants to go to court
Earlier, the POV already indicated to to the judge action if things continue in this way.

a Brabant full of abandoned farms, dilapidated stables, and unmaintained yards, a perfect starting point for the construction of camping and other recreation, with this regulation Brabant changes into the Eastern bloc of the early 90s..

Do you really think that companies that want to develop will pay for the demolition of someone else's stable? also the companies that want to leave the farm in Brabant and develop further elsewhere.. That is even more square meters of abandoned stables...

Maybe it 's time to take to the streets the old - fashioned way .
The Dutch agricultural sector is generally very well-behaved and tidy.
We are the sector on which the Dutch economy runs, with a huge trade surplus!
