Fighting manure fraud

Solid manure is sampled independently

31 August 2017 - Bart-Jan van Zandwijk - 4 comments

From Sunday 1 October 2017, solid manure (thick fraction) may only be removed if the manure has been sampled by an independent sampler. State Secretary Martijn van Dam announced this in the Government Gazette on Wednesday 30 August.

The solid fraction must be weighed and sampled from 2015 when it is removed from the company. At present, sampling is still allowed to take place by the transporter of the freight, but as a result it still happens too often that the manure is removed with too high concentrations. This results in manure fraud, whereby the livestock farmer can remove more phosphate on paper and use the manure on his own land.

Thick fraction should be sampled independently

Independent sampler
The independent sampling may only be done by a 'recognised organisation'. When the solid fraction is removed, a new sample must be taken from October for each load to be removed. In certain cases it will be possible to apply batch sampling.

With the new scheme, Van Dam wants to prevent fraud in the disposal of solid manure. The scheme was initially scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2017, but was postponed at the time.

True, but this is a bogus solution and it will cost the farmer a lot of extra money.....
