Depreciation of phosphate rights: not for the time being

13 December 2017 - Bart-Jan van Zandwijk - 20 comments

Phosphate rights will not be depreciable for the time being. This is announced by the Ministry of Finance. The argument for this is the lack of an end date. That is why poultry and pig rights for 2017 will no longer be depreciable.

The ministry has announced that it does not agree with depreciation on the investment in phosphate rights, says Alies Visscher of Countus. "About phosphate rights it is stated that these are not included in the National Agricultural Standards 2017, because the rights will only be granted in 2018 and therefore do not yet exist. Since no (probable) end date has been set for phosphate rights, the ministry does not agree with depreciation on phosphate rights."

Do not write off on rights 2017

End date the problem
Countus: "The position is also taken that pig and poultry rights may not be written off, as long as a new (probable) end date has not yet been set."

Visscher reports that inquiries with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) show that a new (probable) end date has not yet been determined. "It is possible that the Ministry of LNV will come up with a decision at a later date, which will make depreciation possible. If that is the case, the agricultural standards will of course be adjusted on that point."

What now?
Visscher: "What we can do now is submit a declaration in which a different position is taken. An appeal and/or objection can then be submitted." Countus is still considering the possible next steps.

ABAB is of the opinion that this is a temporary arrangement, which means that phosphate rights can be depreciated. If there is no clarity about the write-off in 2018, only a course of action will remain.

This could well result in a price reduction of all rights.

If you do not have to take into account 'a depreciation item for phosphate rights', the increase in the balance after deduction of a few cents of interest (for the investment amount) is the increase in profit.

The investment in phosphate rights is then recovered very quickly, which offers the possibility of explosively increasing the price of phosphate rights.

Ha ha, that dude. Certainly some phosphate rights on offer. Now that it cannot or may not be depreciated, the tax is therefore not included. The price will definitely come down quite a bit. Potential buyers just have to be patient, there will be plenty of phosphate rights in the future. By the way, the price is already past the madness and quite falling. Anyway.. Durk knows that too.

If I were a seller I would sell the phosphate rights quickly
Soon worth half the money!!!
Hans 13 December 2017
Great news for the sellers!
Surely the tax authorities will be so consistent, if the buyer is not allowed to write off, the seller does not have to settle with the tax authorities ...... right?
To think that many transactions have already been recorded for huge amounts!

sugar reference was also depreciable, due to the end date, the LLBs in the new system are also not depreciable. A good thing, trading in (fried) air is usually only good for the intermediary
Klaas k 13 December 2017
This has a major impact on the price. offer is now at 135 euros
Bob 14 December 2017
If you want to have a future for young farmers, phosphate rights should not be written off
It's not about the biggest mortgage, it's about making money
The banks don't have to provide money for it, then it will all be okay
Henk 14 December 2017
If it isn't taxed at the seller's, then it doesn't matter. If the price is half and the seller cannot be settled, the seller will have the same (net) left over...
Gerard Groot Koerkamp 14 December 2017
As long as there is no new date for pig rights, we are still dealing with the old date and that is December 31. 1 the value is basically 2018.

Phosphate rights won't work either. It's all air. Few farmers will invest in Phosphate rights. Then milk a few less cows instead of going into debt
Mn 15 December 2017
Milk price will fall in 2018. There is enough supply. Germany already has a reduction in the milk price

No, Bob is a potential buyer. Don't be fooled by someone's comment.
All potential sellers should not panic. You're crazy, don't sell anything now. Just giving away at the moment. Let them go!! Just pay attention in 2018 with unchanged policy [if the banks approve that is].
Only if the milk price drops [and that is certain] will bank serfs with their large stables no longer have money to buy. Then they go to shit without phosphate rights (not a big deal either). What could also be of influence is that this compassionate CU minister decides just as lightly on the phosphate partitions between the sectors in order to accommodate, among other things, the drowning pig farmers' division. In the end, we're just going in the same direction with phosphate as with the milk quota {that's fine too]. Although in hindsight it would of course have been much better if we had kept the mq. But the latter is a cliche I will add. And yes, my dear friends, if ever the price of phosphate at mq level [when it peaked] comes out I intend to start counting my/our blessings. But you, bank serf with your great half-empty stables, will not feast with my/our rights for little. We salute you dear friends.

aaaaah Dirk, have you bought phosphate rights speculatively and are you now trying to keep the market afloat. so that you can later discharge it to a stuck dairy farmer for way too much money

No sharp, your imagination is running wild due to the phosphate legislation, or your thinking is confused, or your perception is lacking. You are in any case less sharp than you think, so in summary it could be that your self-image is not correct. You're finally wrong [as so often are so many here and everywhere] so that's not really a shame [so comfort yourself].
Do you know what it is, Sharp? Well, we just want the highest possible pension. We milk and quite well, for years. We also lean back. But we're not going to get rid of our rights for today's Jewish tip, then we'll continue to milk ourselves, that's going well too. If they would like to farm big, then just make a big splash for the place we hand in to give the bank serfs some more room to move and otherwise. wiggling, also good, also has a very positive effect on the freedom of movement of the rest. Is there anything against this? We didn't think so. We always read about market forces here. Got it now, keen reader. It's completely different than you thought. But what do you think Sharp, at some point in the future [which is not far away] would trapped cattle farmers float to the surface? aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhgggrrrrhhhh.....!!!????Next time think carefully, it will be fine dude.
And try to read the above in the correct pitch.
sharp 15 December 2017
hmmmm, well worded. but I can only read that you are sailing sharply close to the wind. And you keep a close eye on that special management.
