In New Year's speech

Mayor Deurne calls manure fraud hype

2 January 2018 - Esther de Snoo - 23 comments

Mayor Hilko Mak of the municipality of Deurne (North Brabant) denounces the way in which the media portrayed farmers in 2017 as notorious manure fraudsters.

Mak said in his New Year's speech on Monday 1 January that he felt addressed as mayor of the most livestock-dense municipality in the Netherlands because of the reports about the systematic committing of manure fraud by farmers and manure traders. The NRC published Saturday 11 November an article ("The Manure Conspiracy"), stating that 39% of intermediaries broke the rules in 2014 and 2015.

I have a different view of these problems

Doubt about the facts
Mak: "As mayor of Deurne, I also feel addressed when this is brought out. As mayor, I am there for all residents. As mayor, I wonder whether the facts, which are distributed by the media, are correct. I have a different view of these problems."

Mak sees that many good developments on farms and many farmers' initiatives are taking place in Deurne. "Many of the agricultural companies in Deurne, often with young entrepreneurs, have their affairs in order. They are increasingly giving substance to the connection between farmer and citizen."

bend
Mak wants to reverse the negative trend. "It is good to reverse the negative trend created by this hype. For this we must continue to talk to each other and not oppose each other. Politics has an important role in reversing polarization."

This is a response to this article:

as is so often the case, politicians have absolutely no insight into these kinds of matters. Mr. Mak also shouts what The farmers in Brabant should not pretend that they are innocent.
conclusion 2 January 2018
If arable farming had more space to drive manure, all that shit wouldn't have happened
Jan 2 January 2018
Jeroen completely wrong to brush everything together. There are a lot of good entrepreneurs who have done a great job!!!

The mayor underestimates the butter and cigarette smugglers of 25% of the animal farmers in Brabant and Limburg a fruit grower from the Betuwe

Mak should be wiser. Are you a little known in Brabant?, Jan? And with the Brabant mentality? I do.
I'd just be a little careful about taking sides. innocence of the agricultural here so. Yes, there are some good ones, but eh.....

Due to the nature of his position, the mayor of Deurne has every interest in looking after the interests of his farmers, citizens and outsiders.
If he knows that the farmers and intermediaries are not cheating with manure, he can explain this outright, which, according to this report, he has not done.
If he is unable to do so, he would do well to take this 'hype' more seriously, not as hype, but by taking the statement of the Minister of LNV to heart that there is no longer a blind eye, trivializing, even secretly, with some admiration for the enterprising character of the profession (intermediaries, farmers, transporters, etc.). He should illuminate his speech with facts and details so that his note can be put into perspective.
Does anyone know where the internet text of his speech can be found?

@conclusive. It is not about more (dump/slurry) manure, but about good manure. And that is matured farmyard manure, you can do something with that if you want to have life in your soil again. That slurry is poison, even when squeezed.

Also eh .... shit on the marble with you? uh.. anonymous?
Ha, ha, a mayor who calls the manure fraud a hype. Look for the meaning of hype on dude, if you know where to find it
The information department of the municipality has verm. invited the BD because Mak has to clean things up under pressure from the supporters. Don't make me laugh anonymous commenter. I see up close how things are really being duped. Mak makes fun of himself. Greetings

Yes with this kind you have to win the war. But the best solution is not to start a war. Let them screw up, as long as it doesn't bother us
Jan 3 January 2018
Yes Dirk I see the pill is already working !!!
hans 3 January 2018
Even ZLTO with H Huijberts already says that the manure runs out of scuppers in the south, and the farmers just deny and carry on. The Hague also turns a blind eye to it, with Calimero checks. And Dirk, count on the fact that the rest of the Netherlands is/will be affected by it, having water supplied as manure, so much lower crop productions, and soon even stricter standards.

Yes, some commenters here apparently feel quite threatened or at least rather addressed. And a mayor who is actually part of the Triangle reacts in a way as described. It would have been better for him to wait until Justice (the Triangle is also next to the burg.) has come to a judgment on how criminal the mess is there. It says something about the mentality in those parts. It must really be a mess in that region (administratively). But that cannot be otherwise when there are so many dominant criminals in your "parish". Government just needs to get the bad apples right, so that the bona fides can continue their business righteously. Jan/Gerard/Anonymous grab a bag of pills yourself and also go to the Pearl for good glasses. Both will do you good.
prejudiced Dirk 4 January 2018
Well Dirk you are very biased!
It drips from you.
hans 4 January 2018
So that "biased Dirk" calls the real Dirk biased simply means he doesn't think Dirk is biased. It's good that with Dirk more and more people dare to name fraud that harms fellow human beings.

Dear pseudo Dirk,
Prejudice as an adjective is not Dutch. If you mean what I understand you should have written "Biased Dirk". That is Dutch and has the same meaning as you mean as I understand it.
Attn Hans, would he understand you too?

Ho wait I see, it's even crazier. It even says "biased" [with 2 e's ha, ha]
That is nowhere to be found at all. What most resembles that is "beneficial" but that's probably not what he means.

And the mayor...? Well, as befits a good mayor, he's just better off shoulder to shoulder next to the div. investigative services stand up and make no further attempt to cover anything with the mantle of love
gerard 5 January 2018
I am a manure buyer
have read the report and think mine of
eg if the levels of the manure are tampered with, then I will come in the year with a bad harvest and I will no longer purchase manure from my supplier
And if the weight isn't right, I'll find out too
but a person is now looking for the border and they do that in Holland too
