The solid fertilizers with a high organic matter content (such as straw manure, mushroom compost and compost) are in great demand among arable farmers. In some cases money is even paid, but the amounts can vary considerably per region.
Arable farmers in the Northern Netherlands receive approximately €5 per tonne for goat manure and €3 per tonne for solid cattle manure. In Flevoland these amounts are at a higher level and approximately €6 per tonne is paid for delivery to the headland. In the South of the Netherlands, approximately €2,50 is paid per tonne of manure.
NPK levels
In the Dutch livestock farming areas (for example North Brabant), the prices received by arable farmers are considerably lower. The trade there mainly concentrates on liquid manure. Arable farmers can be happy when they receive €1 per tonne for receiving solid cattle manure.
It is recommended that you pay close attention to the quality of the solid manure. For example, the amount of potash can make a significant difference in the price. Solid pig manure is less interesting because of the amount of phosphate in the product.
Champost
Arable farmers in the Netherlands currently receive €2 to €3 for mushroom post. In the province of North Brabant this amount is higher and €4 to €5 per tonne is paid. Manure processors can hardly dispose of the champost, because sales are made more difficult by regulations in Germany. Normally, almost all sales go to this country.
Compost use is increasing
Farmers also pay for compost and this product has the highest organic matter content. Compost is especially attractive because of the advantages in the legislation surrounding mineral management; For example, phosphate in compost is only included for 50% in the manure accounting. According to several distributors, there is currently a shortage of compost. This is because the supply remains the same, but demand has been increasing for years. As a result, the price also increases slightly every year.
In the province of Zeeland, amounts vary from €5,50 to €8 per tonne for green compost and €3,50 per tonne for organic waste compost. In Flevoland, farmers pay €8 to €10 per tonne of green compost and about €5 for organic compost. In the province of North Brabant, these prices are lower and approximately €2 per ton of compost is paid.
The prices for purchasing compost during the season are more expensive than prior to the season. An additional reason to purchase compost prior to the season is that it has then matured further.
