Stricter than elsewhere

Brabant tightens manure rules

26 April 2018 - Wouter Baan

The province of Noord-Brabant is tightening the rules for manure processors. For example, the storage and transshipment of manure must take place indoors, so that odor nuisance is reduced.

The new rules apply in particular to the larger manure processors. Relatively little will change for the smaller manure processors on a livestock farm, writes the Brabants Dagblad.

A new feature is that processors must measure emissions. Bacteria in the manure must also be killed by heating. According to a spokesperson for the province, the manure rules in Brabant are stricter than in other provinces.

In order to reduce the nuisance in the countryside, Brabant wants manure processors to settle more often on industrial sites.
