Manure distributor Berkhof from Scherpenzeel (Gelderland) has taken over the still to be built manure processing plant Greenferm. There are plans to process 350.000 tons of manure annually at the location in Apeldoorn. This could give manure processing in the east of the Netherlands a boost.
The plans for the construction of a manure processing factory Greenferm have been going on for some time, but lately it has been very quiet around the project. Berkhof wants to breathe new life into the project with the acquisition of 75% of the shares. Construction is expected to start around the turn of the year.
Impulse for East Netherlands
The plant's planned processing capacity is 350.000 tons of manure per year, of which 70% is pig and 30% cattle slurry. About 310.000 tons of manure has already been registered, according to Berkhof. The supply will mainly come from the north and east of the Netherlands.
The new manure processing plant can be seen as an impulse for the manure surplus in the east of the Netherlands; in that region, the manure processing capacity is still considerably behind the amount of manure produced there.
