The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) carried out searches on 19 November at 10 locations due to suspicion of manure fraud. The research focuses mainly on a consultancy, which may play a facilitating role.
During the action, the investigation service (IOD) of the NVWA carried out searches at 10 locations. The consultancy itself was searched and in addition 9 homes and commercial buildings were also examined. National media say that the consultancy in question is Bergs Advies (from the province of Limburg).
This company has been under surveillance for months by the NVWA. Last year, the consultancy was convicted on appeal for co-perpetrating forgery in a manure fraud case.
Criticism of Schouten
Last week, Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) was criticized by the Public Prosecution Service (OM), because the party approach against manure fraud is insufficient. The Public Prosecution Service sees the reduction of livestock as the only solution and considers the actions of the NVWA and the judiciary as drops in the ocean.
