In the vicinity of Hengelo, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) arrested 18 employees of a manure intermediary on Tuesday 3 June. The company is suspected of cheating with manure samples.
During the raid, the NVWA came across a room in which sample bags are presumably being resealed. Dozens of farmers are expected to have gone bankrupt. "The 3 employees of the company from Twente have been taken in for questioning," said a spokesperson for the NVWA. On the website The NVWA has a photo of the equipment that has been found.
In the wrong again
The NVWA has been eyeing the manure intermediary in question for some time. About 1 year ago, the company was caught red-handed with catting pig manure. A criminal investigation is still ongoing.
Last week, the NVWA, together with the police, also raided a manure intermediary in Oldebroek† Four people were arrested, but they have since been released.
