Manure can be spread up to and including 15 September. This year the conditions are unbelievably beautiful. The early grain harvest, for example, provided many spreading opportunities, which were gratefully used.
The moderate price expectations for potatoes and onions also helped somewhat. This was reflected, among other things, in the interest in various types of manure. On average, the amount to be paid for fattening pig slurry and cattle slurry is €2,50 per tonne. The additional issues (such as having nitrogen available from fattening pig slurry or cattle slurry) seemed like a bonus, but in the end they were hardly of decisive importance.
Livestock farmers start calculating
Now that the end of the manure spreading season is approaching, livestock farmers are starting to calculate. Anyone whose manure pit is now full has not been paying attention. This would be the case in many cases, because the supply of cattle manure has increased since mid-August. In many cases, the agreements until the end of the season have already been made and therefore switching is often no longer possible.
Those who still have to remove manure after the closing of the spreading period must take into account a high rate due to the costs for processing or interim storage in silos. It is still difficult to estimate what can be expected from next season.
