LTO wants to keep talking with Schouten about nitrogen

9 April 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 24 comments

LTO Nederland would prefer to discuss the conditions of the nitrogen policy with agriculture minister Carola Schouten. This is what chairman Marc Calon says in an interview with De Volkskrant. In doing so, he opposes the Agricultural Collective, of which LTO is also a part, which has discontinued talks with Schouten.

According to Calon, it remains to be seen whether the Landbouw Collectief, the association of 13 farmers' representatives, will continue now that the nitrogen talks with Schouten have been broken off. "We are looking at whether and how we should proceed with the Agricultural Collective," he tells de Volkskrant.

According to the LTO leader, it remains to be seen whether it was wise for the Agricultural Collective to stop the talks. "We are a bit more nuanced than a number of other agricultural clubs, because the cabinet will continue to draw up nitrogen policy. That is why we prefer to talk through it." Calon emphasizes that the contact between LTO and the cabinet is good. He gives as an example the damage estimate of €5 billion for agriculture due to the corona crisis, which LTO has issued. "This one comes back in their pieces."

The LTO foreman emphasizes in the interview that Dutch livestock farming has already done a lot to reduce nitrogen emissions. Remarkably enough, Calon indicates that LTO has never doubted the nitrogen calculations of the RIVM. Many other organizations such as the Farmers Defense Force and the Mesdag Dairy Fund have serious doubts about this. "We are clear about nitrogen: those emissions simply have to come down. We believe that more points should be measured, but we have never doubted the calculations of the RIVM."

We talk a bit in this country, but we never realize something. Almost a year in the nitrogen crisis with no prospect of any solution whatsoever. Carola will be happy with corona, nice in the lee now!

Boy, Marc Calon,
Who are you paid by?
What can you say to your supporters.
As a representative it is very simple........................!
If a satisfactory agreement is not reached for the farmers, they will not implement it!
That's what you're there for and nothing else!
You haven't forgotten that the LC opened the door to the government for something that was already completely closed for the LTO.
Marc, stop profiling yourself all the time and be part of the LC.
As LTO members, we feel much better about this!

The ammonia problem must be solved after all. The animal feed needs to be improved, to reduce the ammonia by 50%. Action!
Ps 9 April 2020
Watch out, minister ministry will first apologize for her indifferent obstinate action behind the primary sector to talk to the primary sector instead and then want to abuse the nitrogen emergency law during the corona crisis and behind the scenes there absolutely there is no reason for it, as far as lto is concerned, who has been talking for years with steak holders chain parties retail as a result,!!!!!! Producing more and the best quality for less or prices from 30 years ago and agreeing with ceta. This means that other countries with lower quality standards can supply everything here in the Netherlands, while the agricultural sector of the Netherlands has the highest standard quality with higher costs and labor, while retail can kick everywhere regardless of the working conditions cultivation method chemical agents, etc etc

@dirk, Carola will be happy with Calon. In any case, she has nothing to fear from LTO anymore.

The left-wing Calon stabs a knife in the back of the Agricultural collective. Loss of power (sharing in the collective) has been unacceptable at LTO in the past and unfortunately still is, no matter what the bill is. When does the supporters intervene and this misguided driver thunders outside, wake up before it is too late.

Are they going to represent the interests of farmers again, squander all interests, I hope this is now only money for their members, I have had to hitch a ride on their success too often, know where the so-called problem lies, certainly not with the farmer, trust in the RIVM? See below the facts of measurements during the corona!

The fairly large margin of 20 to 60 percent lower emissions, according to the KNMI, has to do with the large variation of the weather, but also of the emissions. For example, emissions on Sundays are much lower than during the week. KNMI has combined the data over different periods and compared it with the period for these measures and with the monthly average for March 2019. The estimation of the reduction depends on exactly how the comparison is made and which period is chosen for the averaging. That is why the estimate based on these measurements alone is relatively uncertain for the Netherlands, according to the weather institute.

The KNMI does report that satellite measurements have been made for sixteen years by the OMI instrument, the predecessor of Tropomi. “The comparison with this historical data shows how exceptional the current situation is.

Calon for arable farmers?
A few days ago large clouds of dust melted over the barren plain. I wonder where the RIVM charges the deposition to...

That's maybe a week in a year. 17 hours a day
That shit from the cows and pigs is 52 weeks 24 hours a day.
He's absolutely right that Calon.
Only the way and the moment is very rude to have such things written down.

That is why I am certainly not a member of this left-wing splintered club.

Smart to start a conversation with each other.
Skirt 9 April 2020
If everyone comes from one side, the conversation ends. It would be wise for both parties to be of good will instead of fooling the other.
shoemakers1 9 April 2020
enter into a conversation to give everything away, it is better not to have had a conversation Gerard, because lto is only interested in knowing reference dates for the friends, that is the only purpose to sit at the table, not to represent interests
Drikus 9 April 2020
Divide and conquer . Is the proverb. Disagreement within agriculture and animal husbandry. Is the demise of these industries. If you negotiate with several parties, the minister will try to make agreements with the party that suits her best. In this case it could be LTO . But unity must be resumed whether or not to negotiate with the collective and not with one party . And wonder if now is the time to make appointments. A different time has arisen because of the crisis . There are companies that now have to try to survive and the rest may also struggle or will have a hard time . It would be more appropriate to wait and see how long we are in this crisis and what is left in the end . This time could be used to try out certain proposals. At the moment there are already fewer emissions , which can serve as an argument for postponing the negotiations . In my opinion, Schouten should want this himself. But she may be under the hood of the rest . You should actually take your hat off to this aunt because she is a tough go-getter. Many other people would drop their ax if they were under the hood or if they got so much resistance . But in this case she is more minister of the environment than of agriculture . She may be used as a pawn and later nicely put aside because a scapegoat will be sought again when it is round . Because it will cost mountains of money and effect is not measurable , So again hearings about the costs . And then someone has to be to blame. Because our anti livestock politicians are always right and want to sit in the front row for a quarter . And they also let the citizen pay that quarter .

STOP THE LIE stop LTO

Agricultural collective, sideline LTO.

let this be the last straw.

What do you have against "leftists". VVD, VDA, CU are extreme "right". Are those friends?
Young Farmer 10 April 2020
I understand LTO. Carola doesn't care about the LC. The LC has ruined it for itself due to the cocky behavior of FDF in particular and the accompanying threatening language and way of negotiating. Unfortunately, Aalt cannot repair the FDF cracks that have arisen in the appearance of the LC. Add to this the disappointing results of the Mesdag Fund, which are no longer taken seriously. The only way to still keep in touch and to remove the sharpest edges of the measures that Carola proposes here and there is to sit down in The Hague under your own LTO title. I think the LC did not do the right thing to stop the consultation... We will have to make do with it as a sector. And we will really survive it again in general terms!!!
Willie 10 April 2020
@jonge Boerin........an interview in Trouw....doesn't that make you think either....I think your interests lie elsewhere than...have to deal with it as a sector
