Protest with tractors has far-reaching consequences

9 July 2020 - Erik Colenbrander - 20 comments

Update: Since yesterday (July 8), the farmers' protest, today for the eighth day in a row, has focused on the use of tractors as a means of demonstrating and changing the image in the media. Farmers Defense Force lost a lawsuit over the demonstration ban this morning. A majority in the House of Representatives rejects the protests in sometimes harsh terms.

But there is also an understanding of the emotions. For example with LTO Noord chairman Dirk Bruins, who lives in Dwingeloo - not far from waste processing in Wijster. "I tend to stand among the protesting colleagues, but public opinion may turn against us." Directors of the LTO department of arable farming were frankly outraged about the minister's aborted working visit to agricultural companies in Zeeland.

After a visit to an arable farm, where BO chairman André Hoogendijk presented the future vision of arable farming to Minister Schouten, Schouten decided yesterday to cancel a visit to a farm on the Zeeland island of Kamperland. According to the regional police, the reason for this decision was not an actual threat, but the location of the company to be visited. The minister had no way of dealing with a tractor blockade by farmers.

Political disapproval
Later in the day, MPs tumbled over each other to show their disapproval of this state of affairs. "Too sad for words", tweeted ChristenUnie Member of Parliament Dik-Faber. According to her, the minister (her party colleague) is known for always having conversations with farmers. That conversation makes one group of farmers impossible for the other group, party leader Gert-Jan Segers added on Twitter. Tjeerd de Groot (D66) goes much further by stating in the newspaper Trouw this morning that the farmers' protest is beginning to become an anti-democratic movement. Earlier this week, he filed a death threat.

Jaco Geurts (CDA) also emphasizes that no minister or politician should be made impossible to work, regardless of political color or opinion. But at the same time he says that he understands the emotions.

BoerBurgerBeweging candidate Femke Wiersma emphasizes that the protesting farmers in Zeeland had no intention of doing any harm and only wanted to force a conversation with the minister.

In the provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe, this is no longer allowed with tractors since Monday, for the duration of a week. This morning, summary proceedings instituted by Farmers Defense Force were filed with the court in Groningen. The judge ruled in their favor. Farmers Defense Force then announced that it would appeal. According to them, the tractor has become symbolic of the farmers' protest and no other means is more conspicuous than protesting with the tractor.

Contrary to LTO, action group Agractie sided yesterday with the farmers' protest at the waste processing in Wijster, which was set up and carried out by local members under the banner of Farmers Defense Force.

Dirty suggestive reporting.
There was absolutely no threat in Zeeland to cancel the visit.
Not based on facts, but on suggestive images.
Thanks Minister Schouten van Bouw!!!! BAH BAH

Shouldn't we blame ourselves? After all, we have chosen this ball government! And LTO already gave the impetus to liquidation years ago. Anyone who is still behind, and there are still far too many, is not worthy of being called an agricultural entrepreneur. It may be too late, but show at the next elections who can still save our beautiful Netherlands. Let's keep our heads up. good luck colleagues

There may be a small chance in March 2021 to change the policy in favor of animal husbandry, the government and eu27 have implemented a serious restructuring, resulting in an aging sector where the successors of family businesses are dropping out
Gijs 10 July 2020
Surely it cannot be true that farmers are encouraged to campaign by sponsors = animal feed industry. Farmers are so independent to keep their own pants up. Protein reduction primarily affects this industry. Farmers much less, although they are frightened by fairy tales about the health of protein reduction.

If health problems do arise due to protein reduction, the cows have been bred incorrectly. This would be very tragic and very unethical.

It cannot be the case, Gijs, that those who have no knowledge of anything, that is to say the officials, will decide how someone else should conduct their business, if you are as smart as you think you are, then also face the consequences, but you only make problems, never solved anything
Gijs 10 July 2020
@ no further from here. Take a look at my questions. As a farmer you do not allow yourself to be put under the strain of the feed industry!
time bomb 10 July 2020
It would be good to check that being insured. Schouten of the crepeer union must leave the house as soon as possible. In Zeeland, according to the Brabant/Zeeland police, great fun, good conversations. I've already posted it under another topic. Is a real tank for sale at Troostwijk auctions. With all of us a small contribution, and we can reach The Hague unimpeded. Schouten on the run and just drive. Only the insurance, I don't know

Gijs, we only want to have a life, if you decide everything for us, but do not bear the risks of the misery we are going to experience, answer that is, the feed industry goes for their own gain, but where are you ? If things go wrong, will there be compensation, and not just like here in the south, 2016 flooding 100% water board is to blame, but spend more money on advice not to pay out when all the claimed damage has been put together, but the farmer has to be destroyed
common sense 11 July 2020
Farmers must demand freedom and democracy!
Berend 11 July 2020
Not everyone understands freedom and democracy in the same way. If farmers with tractors are forced to turn around by the police, then democracy is not at stake. Start a peasant party and say your word in the 2nd Chamber.
shoemakers 1 11 July 2020
No Berend, 1,5 meter demonstration is not allowed last week, the colored people are this week, why freedom here, here you only have freedom if you only benefit from society, if you want to be valuable to society you only have duties
common sense 12 July 2020
Shoemakers, which party did you vote for?

In anticipation of the banner of your party's full name, the coming corona encroachment and economic decline in prosperity due to the reversal of the climate can wake up citizens as long as they still have voting rights within Europe!

Or are you already throwing in the towel?

Cultural refugees show that freedom and democracy can never be taken for granted, but need maintenance: something that a left-wing Christian culture used to understand and that the right is infringing on to the point of a totally dictatorial Europe. (which no one voted for!)

Culture destruction and degeneration go by itself in the current shroud.

probably a cu voter

I don't get it, the right is totally dictatorial, I think the left-wing Rutten and his entourage carry through the dictatorship much more than the right ever did, who know that something has to be done in order to be able to spend something, Rutten destroys everything that generations is built
