Agriculture Minister Carola Schouten has put an end to the now infamous feed measure. Several media report this on the basis of 'The Hague sources'. The decision comes one day before summary proceedings brought by the Nitrogen Claim and Agri Facts foundations against the concentrate regulation.
New calculations that the Ministry of LNV has commissioned show that the feed measure produces a marginal nitrogen gain and therefore it makes no sense to introduce it in September. Nitrogen claim and Agri Facts wanted the minister to provide substantiation for the feed measure. Something that hadn't happened until now. This also raised the question of whether the feed measure was legally tenable.
Apparently Schouten does not want to undergo this legal test. A letter to the House of Representatives is expected this afternoon in which the minister will provide a text and explanation of the decision. As it looks now, Schouten has no other plan available for the time being.
In recent weeks, there has been massive protest against the concentrates regulation by almost all parties and organizations involved in the agricultural sector. According to a source, the decision was made purely on the basis of the new calculations and the protests have had no influence on this.
