At the beginning of April, a downward trend was visible in fertilizer prices. As a result, buyers decided to wait for the low point to buy at a low price. That point was reached in July. Prices are now in calmer waters. What do these come to now?
In general, the situation is up the fertilizer market can be called stable. Most farmers have stocked up on the fertilizers they need and the market suggests that not much is being ordered at the moment. Manure accounting also plays a role in this. Many farmers have already paid their taxes for this year and will only start actively using fertilizers again next year.
However, there is also a limited group of farmers who are now purchasing fertilizers for next year (in view of the affordable prices). This mainly concerns farmers who have an empty silo or warehouse and therefore have space to store these big bags. This does not apply to everyone, according to the market.
Price for Nutramon takes a step up
Although it is generally quiet on the fertilizer market, the price for Nutramon is rising. The price in week 35 is approximately €19,90 per 100 kilos, which is an increase of €0,50 compared to the previous week. However, compared to previous years, the price is still considerably lower: in 2018 the price in week 35 was around €22,75 per 100 kilos and in 2019 it was even €23,80 per 100 kilos.
The fact that the price is slowly climbing upwards is mainly due to the combination of a smaller supply and increased demand. Buyers have waited a long time for the low point (from week 23 to week 32 the price was €18,80 per 100 kilos) and since then Nutramon has become more popular.
Stability predominates
If we look at the price of Kalkammonsalpeter (KAS, 27%), it is clear that the first purchasing round has been for the new season. For week 35, the KAS price is approximately €17,20 per 100 kilos, which is €0,05 more than the previous week. Here too, the price is considerably lower than in the previous 2 years. The price then came to €22,95 (in 2019) and €20,70 (in 2018) per 100 kilos.
The price for potassium salt (60%) is still fairly stable between €29 and €30 per 100 kilos and the price for triple superphosphate (45%) is between €28 and €36 per 100 kilos. The latter depends on whether it is delivered separately or not.
