I recently read in the trade journal De Boerderij about the future of agriculture. They assume that a new cabinet will be formed in 2023 with a long-term vision. That would be very nice. Given the great contrast between left and right, this will not be easy and certainly not a long-term vision.
Recently there was a meeting organized by Farmers Defense Force. All media and politicians from The Hague were invited for this. Three scientists, Frank Mitloehner, Peter Ballerstedt and Aalt Dijkhuizen, were invited to explain the solution to the nitrogen and CO3 problem. To my surprise there were only 2 MPs, Caroline van der Plas and Nynke Koopmans, and a delegate from Brussels of Annie Schreijer. Furthermore, there were only a few agricultural trade journals to listen to the solutions to our climate problem. Isn't this remarkable to say the least? You would at least expect that the politicians from The Hague would come en masse to listen to the solution to their problems. It was a very interesting and clear explanation from these highly regarded scientists on how to solve these problems. The IPCC's recently published report confirms the above scholars' right. The government will have to listen seriously.
The future forecast of Farm also states that due to the precision fertilization all fertilizers will be used for 100%. This is definitely going to happen. Revenues will go up first. Only it is not taken into account that the fertilizers to grow the crops are running out. Nitrogen can be captured from the air with clovers, but potassium and phosphate cannot. These fertilizers will run out, even when the utilization by precision agriculture is 100%. The big problem is that the farmer supplies his products to the consumer and so the farmer removes fertilizers (potassium, phosphate and nitrogen) that are contained in his products. We consumers do not return these fertilizers to the farmer. So despite the 100% utilization from the precision fertilizer, the yields will decrease due to consumer waste.
World population grows to 9 billion
The prospect is that the world population will increase to 9 billion people. All these new residents will require more land for housing and traffic. Furthermore, due to global warming, more and more areas will no longer be suitable for agriculture. There will also be an increasing need for raw materials. But where do you get it from? Getting out of the ground cannot go on indefinitely. These will run out and have to be replaced by raw materials that the earth gives us again and again. This can only be solved by agriculture. After all, these agricultural products grow again every year.
Consumers are not easily satisfied
We also want to claim the agricultural land for nature. We consumers, with politics in the lead and the media in its wake, blame agriculture for the environmental problems. The Remkes committee says to agriculture: NOT EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. He's just saying this to the wrong group of people. He has to say this to the consumer. The consumer has a very annoying characteristic: he is rarely, if ever, satisfied. First 1 time a year by plane on holiday, then 2 times, then 3 times and so on. Now he even goes shopping in Spain for a weekend. Look what a waste of resources. An airplane from Schiphol to America uses more than 100.00 liters of kerosene. We want more and more products. The consequences are not considered. Production is carried out without checking whether the product is 100% biodegradable by nature, so that the waste mountains are getting bigger and the pollution of our earth only increases.
No folks NOT EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE, and don't forget the saying: having the business is the end of the fun. If I put this in a nutshell, I can only conclude that the government should cherish the farmers instead of driving them out.
Only when people close their own cycle and take into account Remkes' wise words NOT EVERYTHING CAN, jointly search for solutions worldwide and only make products that can be returned 100% to nature, will global warming be under control. .
In the short term, all farmers will have to put their heads together to be able to deal with the fickle government as one front. If the farmers do not do this, they will lose out with all the consequences for society that entails.
