Province wants to speed up circular agriculture

June 19, 2019 - Herre Bartlema - 14 comments

There is little doubt about the usefulness and necessity of a circular agricultural sector, as has been shown in the past year. So I think we can speak of consensus about the direction in which the Dutch agricultural sector should develop. It will therefore come as no surprise to anyone that the subject of circular agriculture has been discussed in all provinces.

What may cause some surprise is the fact that provincial authorities want to speed up the development for the circular agriculture† This is the case, for example, in the province of Noord-Holland. This is also described in the coalition agreement, which has the motto 'Sustainable action'.

This is good news for agricultural entrepreneurs who want to invest in circular business operations, given that the provinces decide on the subsidies that are available for this (rural development). However, own resources can still be added to this. It can be foreseen that this will happen to a large extent, at least in North Holland.

Definition
Which investments are involved in our open cultivation? The answer to this question depends on the definition for circular agriculture. This is mine: "Circular agriculture uses raw materials and consumables from the circular economy and produces no negative external effects." In the case of open cultivation, this primarily concerns the replacement of artificial fertilizers by circular fertilizers and the application of the 4 correctnesses of the fertilization: applying the right fertilizer, at the right time, in the right dosage and in the right place.

Machines for the site-specific application of plant nutrition from residual flows (the right fertilizer), in the root zone (the right place), are now widely available. Are there enough circular fertilizers on the market? We don't have to worry about that these days. Companies such as North Holland's Van der Stelt, which is celebrating its 21th anniversary on Friday 40 June, make it possible for the sector to continue with circular agriculture.

This is in response to it Boerenbusiness article:

as long as the provinces do not forget that Schouten presents circular agriculture with higher prices for the farmer and less regulatory pressure. it will be different again

Mr. Bartlema: Please also take note of Professor Arjan Stegeman's piece. If we start to compromise on the quality of animal feed, we will bring a lot of mischief on ourselves!

I think a subsidy for a new combine with a straw chopper would be a good idea, so that I can recycle extra well.

I think we should feed all the waste from restaurants to the pigs, a nice sustainable cycle. Just 100 years back in time.

In my opinion, the secret agenda behind "Circular Agriculture" is nothing more than a devious plan to decimate Dutch agriculture. The ultimate goal of many political parties.
Explain to me how successful, export-oriented Dutch agriculture can still be competitive abroad?
Not so.
There remains a small agriculture producing only for domestic consumption.

Indeed, we are being robbed of our right to exist. It is truly unimaginable what is now on the table, and even more unimaginable that it is being talked about with such a pious head.

Will the minister already pour out her own excrement in her own vegetable garden? Chamber questions please.

I think Frans means to raise the skirt (choice) in the vegetable garden, just like the women of Zeeland, when they 'had to'

I think it's a great proposal, but then we're going to solve all contemporary problems by going back 50 years in time. Informal care? Just take Grandpa and Grandma home with the children and grandchildren. The women stop their working career outside the home and start caring and educating again. The problem of old people has largely been solved, the housing market for young people is becoming affordable again, expensive childcare is no longer necessary. Only the very smart children go to study, the others just roll up their sleeves again. The result, no study debts, fewer labor migrants, more affordable housing, fewer police on the street....
Instead of going on vacation 3 times a year, go on vacation at most once every 1 years. Result, less stress, less kerosene emissions, no whining about whether or not an extra airport.
Game or smartphone addiction? Solved just calling again with a cord and dial in a cold hallway.
File problem? Each household has a maximum of 1 car in front of the door, when you buy 1 car with the neighbors, no road tax..

When Flip can arrange it all, everything will be fine, but.... something else must go horribly wrong....

Have a nice weekend, Sunday I'm going to the BBQ at the Buuf, as long as the terrorists in the canal belt are still allowed.........

Dear responders, many misunderstandings arise due to a lack of clarity about the definition of circular agriculture that is used. The action plan "De Boer aan het Roer" of the Network Smart Fertilization uses the following: CYCLE AGRICULTURE IS PRECISION AGRICULTURE WITH CIRCULAR RAW MATERIALS AND AUXILIARY MATERIALS WITHOUT NEGATIVE EXTERNAL EFFECTS

This is the motivation: "High-productive circular agriculture provides our agri-food sector with a USP and a License to Produce. This serves a major social and farmer interest. The world is looking at us "

So all very rational.

If the so-called circular agriculture can be explained in many ways before it is introduced, it ends in complete chaos in advance.
I would be very careful about breaking down the current agricultural structure, you do experiments on a small scale, for example on experimental farms.
You can no longer respond.
