The fresh, alarming UN climate report is once again stirring up many tongues in the world. An apotheosis of the recently launched green European megaplans. I myself find it difficult to follow the sharply stated findings from this report 'blindly'. Do I now fall into the category of 'right-wing conspiracy idiots'? The IPCC report is just hard science, isn't it?
I notice online that the resistance is growing. Resistance is growing against the conclusion that humanity itself has a negative influence on the climate. A counter voice that barely gets a foothold in the current television landscape. And then those different scenarios of warming. Which one to choose? Climate deniers and climate fanatics are at odds with each other. Bet: No one really knows.
The fight against climate change. The urgency is obvious: forest fires and floods tumble over each other. We have already pretty much screwed up our planet and must pull out all the stops to save the earth, is the plea of the average climate (change) supporter. Waving the thick IPCC Climate Change 2021 book in hand. Produced by the powerful elite who try to sow fear and panic through activist scientists. At least according to the average climate skeptic. Climate vision and approach has become a divisive issue in society.
Carbon dioxide is poison
'Commotion with effect', that's how you could call the elaboration of the IPCC message from the climate experts. These prophets of doom with their calculation models make it clear that the human influence on the climate, or rather its consequences, should not be trivialized. According to them, a revolution is needed in thinking and acting.
Towards a greener world that can take a beating. Towards more biodiversity that results in natural resilience against pests and diseases. Oh no. The UN's climate message is summarized very simply: carbon dioxide is poison. The reduction to this simple, sober transfer of knowledge and the major focus on CO2 should ensure strength, clarity, unambiguity and ultimately awareness.
How it really works is very complex and incomprehensible. Awareness should lead to a change in the production and consumption pattern of companies and citizens respectively. A zero tolerance policy on carbon dioxide emissions. But do we have all citizens and companies on board? From China, Namibia, Russia and America, just to name a few countries?
Exclusive to Europe?
The European Union wants to impose strict climate standards on its inhabitants. But is the 'Level Playing Field' principle of justice taken into account? To ask the question is to answer it I'm afraid. I am willing to believe in and act on the catastrophic Code Red message of the United Nations, but not if it remains exclusive to the European continent. Every citizen of the world, every business and every economy must have the right to succeed or fail in the fight against climate change. As far as we believe in it.
I see climate as a belief, a religion if you will. A belief that something is true or exists. One believes, the other does not. While we worship our gods or not, we are respectful to our fellow human beings of all walks of life. We help each other if necessary. I'll leave it up to you if this always happens.
Respect for nature
Climate believer or climate unbeliever. You can also decide for yourself whether you believe in climate change, control, adaptation or the status quo. But in all cases you clean up your mess behind your ass. And treat nature with respect with all her living, unique, useful and at first sight less useful creatures, no matter how big or how small.
Biodiversity, or species richness, adapts to the prevailing temperatures. Call it the power of nature. But this resilience-creating interplay of living micro- and macro life can only stand up to the intensive interference of us as a dominant, one-sided species. No science and thick reports needed.
