A big question on the financial markets at the beginning of this year is: when will the central banks in the United States (Fed) and the Eurozone (ECB) cut interest rates this year? The general consensus was that the Fed would be the first to adjust interest rates downwards, followed far behind by the ECB. But Joost Derks, currency expert at iBanFirst, expects interest rates in the eurozone to fall first. When that is and the background of this forecast, Derks tells presenter Eric de Lijster in a new one Boerenbusiness Currencies. The position of the strong dollar against the euro is also discussed, as well as the exchange rate of the British pound and the Swiss franc. Finally, Derks gives his view on digital currencies.
