After the disappearance of the crop protection product Clio, the control of smooth finger grass in maize in particular is a challenge. Weed control before emergence offers a solution in some cases, but not always with a high weed pressure. Do you have to spray it again after the first spraying, or are there other options?
If the smooth-fingered grass is still visible, it is often settled. In that case, it turns out to be very difficult to combat. A new spraying has virtually no result. Nevertheless, it is necessary to prevent the plants from flowering and forming seed. That means even higher pressure for next year.
Mechanical Control
Mechanical control can then offer a solution. The current hoeing machines are able to deliver a good result. The weeds are removed or incorporated in such a way that the plants do not bloom and therefore no longer withdraw moisture. With these machines it is often also possible to sow a crop under the maize. If you also want this, then you kill two birds with one stone!
Pesticides
We see that weeds are still present on maize plots where crop protection was carried out around 2 to 4 June. The weeds had probably hardened off in that period to such an extent that the effect of the agent was insufficient. It is wise to check these plots carefully and if necessary use 2 to 2,25 liters of Laudis as a correction, possibly with a supplement of kart or milagro (depending on the weed pressure and size of the maize). Laudis solo is always safe.
