After a particularly dry start to the growing season, the maize is in good to very good condition in most regions. The maize has suffered the most from the drought on heavy soils, while the maize is often very beautiful on lighter soils. Now it is important to keep the maize healthy and vital during the cob setting and grain filling.
Lately we have had many days with high humidity and moderate temperatures. Leaf fungi can then develop well. So now it is good to keep an eye on your maize, so that you can intervene in time with crop protection if necessary.
Leaf fungi in maize
Maize can be affected by the leaf fungi Helminthosporium, Kabatiëlla, Phoma and rust. Towards the end of the growing season they cause little damage, but early infestation can lead to loss of yield and quality. So keep an eye on your maize and consult your crop protection adviser if you see leaf fungi occurring.
