Partly due to the favorable weather, the dry matter percentage on the plots of the Boerenbusiness Roughage tour in week 37 up quickly. With an average of 32%, about 5% has been added in a week.
Where the plots were still below 30% last week, with a peak in Zuidbroek, almost all plots are well above that this week. Only Aartswoud lags slightly behind with 29%. The results of the last 3 lots will follow after the weekend.
Weather effect dominates
The weather is the decisive factor in the maize analyses. According to Jan Roothaert, product manager livestock farming at Limagrain, it can be seen that the maize ripens a little faster on the higher, drier sand heads. "There are differences not only between plots, but also within plots. This is mainly because it has hardly rained in recent weeks."
Roothaert expects that the upward trend will continue in the coming days. "Up to and including the weekend I expect an increase of about 1% every 1 to 2 days, depending on the location. After the weekend it will probably go back to 1% every 3 days."
