The lawns are in good shape and the mowers are coming out of the shed. The weather forecasts also look dry and familiar to the dairy farmers. The participants of the Boerenbusiness All roughage tour carefully check and measure the fields. Dairy farmers Frank Rooker and Hans Schoenmakers have already started mowing.
On April 26 in the morning, dairy farmer Frank Rooker from Aartswoud (NH) does another round with the grassland altimeter through his fields. Rooker estimates a grass yield ranging between 3.000 and 4.000 kilograms of dry matter per hectare. He then decides to mow everything off at the end of the day.
The grass is mowed with mowers with conditioners. The capacity is large with the double mower.
Grass yields are good on most plots, says Rooker. He does indicate that he has a plot with damage from geese. This can also be clearly seen in the picture:
Planning other participants
The expectations of the other participants of the Roughage Tour in the country are still variable. Hans Schoenmakers in Udenhout (NB) also mowed today (on April 28). Other dairy farmers are still waiting for some extra grass yield. The prospects for next week are good and mowing is first on the schedule. For example, Silvain Kusters from Guttecoven (LI), Sander Vijverberg from Strijen (ZH) and Joost van Nostrum from Sint-Oedenrode (NB) indicate that they will mow early next week.
