The first parcels of fodder beet and silage maize appear at dairy farmers who participate in the Boerenbusiness Roughage tour. Other participants sowed silage maize last week. The ongoing drought is looming. What about emergence and newly sown plots?
In Wapse, a town in Drenthe, the fodder beets were sown at Robbert Welhuis in mid-April. On April 27, the fodder beets of the Rialto variety show themselves above the ground for the first time. Dairy farmer Hans Schoenmakers sown this variety on 13 April. At Schoenmakers (Oosterhout NB) the beets are already well above the ground on 26 April, as an even crop. The fodder beets were sown April 26 at Joost van Nostrum (NB) and Bert Wissels. They also chose Rialto.
First silage maize is above
At Sander Vijverberg in Strijen (ZH), the maize plot was sown on 15 April. All seeds germinate well and on April 28 the maize shows itself above the ground for the first time. The maize is sown in delta relationship, 12,5 cm apart in rows for a better surface distribution.
Soil moisture decreases
At Silvain Kusters (L), the maize was sown on April 22. At Robbert Welhuis (Dr) the maize was sown on 25 April. Frank Rooker (NH), Roel Assies (FL) and Hans Schoenmakers (NB) all sowed the maize on April 26. Then followed Jan Dirk Ubels (FR) on April 28. The conditions for sowing are good, but in some places the weather stations of AgroExact already indicate that it is starting to get dry. For example, the soil sensors at Robbert Welhuis and Silvain Kusters indicate that extra moisture is required. If you want to sow in the near future, you can certainly use some precipitation.
