After a very dry period with many hours of sunshine, water fell from the sky in buckets from Thursday. However, the difference in millimeters of rainwater varies greatly according to the dairy farmers on the roughage tour. In total, more than 50 millimeters fell in some places.
Last Thursday (May 19) heavy rain showers finally entered our country after a long time. Dairy farmers on the roughage tour are very happy with the precipitation, but not everyone got the desired millimeters. At Sander Vijverberg in Strijen (ZH) the most fell with 37 millimeters on May 19 and another 20 mm on May 16.4. Also at Frank Rooker in Aartswoud (NH) a large amount of precipitation fell within 10 minutes. At Silvain Kusters in Guttencove (Li) there were dark skies around 14 pm on May 19, but there was no serious rain. Fortunately, Kusters had to deal with a lot of precipitation on May 20, so that a total of more than 30 millimeters fell on his plot.
Below is an overview of the precipitation on May 19 and 20, which the weather stations of AgroExact have measured.
| Participant | City | Precipitation |
| Bert Swaps | Hengelo (GD) | 22.2 mm |
| Hans Schoenmakers | Udenhout (NB) | 19 mm |
| Joost van Nostrum | Sint-Oedenrode (NB) | 17.8 mm |
| Roel Assies | Zeewolde (FL) | 34 mm |
| Silvain Kuster | Guttencove (Li) | 31 mm |
| Sander Vijverberg | Streaks (ZH) | 53.4 mm |
| Jan Henk Waterink | Breezerveld (OV) | 27.2 mm |
| Robert Welhouse | Wapse (Dr.) | 31.6 mm |
| Frank Rooker | Archwoud(Fr) | 28 mm |
In the end, most dairy farmers received the desired millimeters. In the southeast of the Netherlands in particular, it was disappointing on Thursday, although that improved considerably after Friday in Limburg. The most fell in the southeast and the center of the Netherlands. The precipitation in many areas was also very localized and the differences sometimes amounted to 10 millimeters a few kilometers apart.
How much precipitation will fall?
Now that the first serious rain showers have reached the Netherlands, it remains to be seen whether and how much more will fall in the coming days. The forecast as shown in the image below shows that precipitation may also fall after the weekend. But there doesn't seem to be any full rain gauges.
