Today (30 May) a national protest will take place by LTO Nederland and Team Agro NL, in which dairy farmers keep the cows out of the pasture. This is to show the Netherlands what the consequences are if the nitrogen policy drives the cow out of the pasture. "If this is the way to show this, then it should only be for one day," says roughage tour participant Bert Wissels.
Due to changing legislation and regulations, the Dutch cows are no longer in danger of being able to go out in the meadow without an extra permit. Based on this issue, LTO Nederland and Agro NL have set up this national campaign to show what the consequences are if cows no longer go out to pasture. Ultimately, grazing is an addition for everyone, is the idea. Take the citizen who enjoys the landscape with cows in the meadow, but also the farmer who has a nice addition to the business.
'Bullying farmer'
Participant of the roughage tour Bert Wissels from Hengelo (Gelderland) is also participating in the action. Wissels indicates that the cows have been 'shouting' in the barn all day long. Then he also says: "If this is the way to show this, then it should only be for one day". Like many, Wissels does not agree with the possible new policy that is to come. Ultimately, he thinks that it is a matter of 'bullying bullying' at the moment.
Dairy farmer Robert Welhuis from Wapse (Drenthe) is also participating in the campaign. Welhuis understands that it is not practical for anyone and that it also entails a lot of stress for the cows themselves. But in the end, Welhuis chooses to support the campaign to show that this is not how it works.
