The pressure on the dairy farmers' lands will continue this week. This is how it is mowed, but also irrigated. Crops such as grass, silage maize and field beans are closely monitored by the participants in the Boerenbusiness Roughage tour.
Robert Welhuis from Wapse (Dr.) provided his acreage of summer field beans with water on Monday 28 June with the irrigation reel. Welhuis hopes that the crop will respond well to the extra water, resulting in a better filling in the beans. Which ultimately hopefully results in a better yield.
Nice crop
On Tuesday 28 June, Roel Assies from Zeewolde (FL) cut his third cut. There was a nice crop on it. Due to the good weather conditions, Assies silted the grass one day later on Wednesday 29 June.
Determine crop status
Sander Vijverberg from Strijen (ZH) was measuring grass height on Thursday 30 June. Partly due to the weather reports, Vijverberg expects to win the third cut of grass after the weekend. The 32 centimeter high crop looks great with lots of clover in it.
Growing weather
On the plot of grass at Frank Rooker in Aartswoud (NH), the third cut was mowed on Wednesday 22 June. This was subsequently ensiled on 23 June, after which almost 40 mm of water fell on the plot over the weekend. Rooker is well aware of this, because the grass grows back incredibly fast. Joost van Nostrum from Sint-Oedenrode (NB) indicates that the weather is fertile. Van Nostrum sees the fodder beets developing well.
