Due to the drought and heat, there are clear differences in grass yields. Where the 4th cut has been won in North Holland, the 3rd cut has yet to come from the land for dairy farmers in other provinces. The dairy farmers are not completely dissatisfied.
Frank Rooker mowed his 23th cut of grass in Aartswoud in North Holland on Saturday 4 July. This was ensiled two days later on 25 July. Rooker is currently very pleased with the growing season of both his maize and grass. He talks about a great summer. The maize is growing well and is not yet dehydrated. The grass also continues to grow well in Aartswoud.
Sad affair on lawns
While there are all positive reports about the growing season in North Holland, that is not all easy elsewhere in the country. Bert Wissels from Hengelo (Gld) talks about a sad situation on the land. His 3rd cut has yet to be mowed. The grass has dried up quite a bit, while the reel was still irrigated last week. At the moment, Wissels feeds most of the grass through stable feeds, for the best use.
Silvain Kusters from Guttencove (Lim) is also suffering from the drought, the 3rd cut still has to be mowed there. The grass in Limburg also suffers from moisture shortages. Kusters does have positive reports about maize growth. The flask has settled well.
