Grassland often has a hard time in summer due to drought and sometimes heat. Growth stops when there is too little moisture. On mowing fields, this often leads to the question: what should I do with the grass that is there? Roughage specialist Antoon Verhoeven gives tips.
"Even with a light mowing cut, I often recommend 'resetting' the grassland: mow the plot clean, so that the grass can make a fresh start. The grass that is there deteriorates rapidly in quality during a dry period. growth stops, the lignification continues. A stem shoots in and the digestibility is much lower. A mown field can, certainly when some moisture becomes available again, yield a new cut of good quality."
