After a long wait, it was finally time again: heavy rain and thunderstorms moved over our country from Tuesday night. There was no serious flooding at the dairy farmers, but certain areas did receive a lot of precipitation in a short time.
The last time has been a disaster in terms of grass growth and the maize also showed that it was suffering from the drought and heat. Dairy farmers were waiting for those long-promised rain showers, which were always pushed forward in the weather reports. Some of the dairy farmers have had this rain shower. Most fell on the entire west coast, but a good amount also fell in the north of the Netherlands. Sander Vijverberg in Strijen (South Holland) received the most precipitation. With 46 millimeters spread over several rain showers, a nice sum of precipitation fell. Others had to make do with less precipitation, such as with Bert Wissels in Hengelo (Gelderland). With him it stayed at 4 millimeters.
Place | precipitation in millimeters |
Strijen (South Holland) | 46 |
Gutte oven (Limburg) | 6 |
Wapse (Drenthe) | 11.4 |
Hengelo (Gelderland) | 4 |
Udenhout (North Brabant) | 4 |
Beerzeveld (Overijssel) | 41 |
Sint-Oedenrode (North Brabant) | 5 |
But many do not resolve these rain showers. The precipitation has disappeared because of the drought. The lawns will at most be freshened up a bit, but that's about it, according to several dairy farmers. In Beerzeveld 30 millimeters fell in half an hour and in other places the millimeters are only minimal. Sander Vijverberg was able to make use of the rain showers by spreading manure.
