Researchers at Idaho State University in the United States have programmed drones that can detect viruses in seed potatoes. That reports CapitalPress.
The researchers claim to have detected individual plants infected with the Y virus (PVY virus) with hyperspectral cameras mounted on drones. Locating the virus was 90 percent accurate.
According to the researchers, the method is faster than humans can detect the virus symptoms in the field. Ultimately, the technology will be so advanced that the drones will send the GPS coordinates of diseased plants to people in the field or that the drones will immediately spray the detected plants themselves.
