From 1 July, dairy farmers can use the cooperative data hub to send and receive company data. Partners of this exchange are the SmartDairyFarming Foundation (SDF), Agrifirm, CRV and FrieslandCampina. There are 2 new partners: LTO Nederland and EDI-Circle, who are joining the initiative.
Both SDF and the digital invoicing company EDI-Circle already have a so-called data hub. This is a collection point for data, comparable to the electronic patient file. These 2 systems will be merged into the cooperative data hub on 1 July. The system takes care of the transport of data from the farm to the supplier and vice versa. As an entrepreneur, you determine who may use the data and for what purposes via an authorization register.
Driving innovation
SDF acquired 'info broker' Rovecom at the end of 2016 over, followed by a takeover of the authorization register of Van Aaken ICT. The data hub is now ready. EDI-Circle has been using a hub for financial and technical data for 12 years, which is integrated into the cooperative. LTO Nederland is becoming a participant because, in its own words, it wants to take responsibility for setting up a secure data position for agriculture and wants to boost innovation.
According to Ton Loman, chairman of SDF, the data hub also offers perspectives beyond dairy farming. 'The SDF Foundation was a good step to start with. For a follow-up, a cooperative data hub offers a good business structure for an agricultural follow-up.'
