More tractors were sold in the Netherlands in 2017 than in 2016. The tractor sales thus show the best result since 2013. The limit of 3.000 units has been reached again. However, there are no shifts in the top 3 of brands.
Dutch importers and dealers owe the good sales result to very good sales in December. That month was good for no fewer than 647 new tractors. In previous years, this level was around 400 units. Some companies therefore question the reliability of the figures. One importer also reports the stock pullers to Fedecom, while the other looks at sales to the end user.
Another possible explanation can be found in the new vehicle regulations, which come into effect from 1 Januari 2018 is in effect. Tractors must now have a dual-line braking system. It is possible that companies quickly registered many new tractors in 2017.
Good sale
It was the last time in 2013 that tractor sales ended so positively. In 2017 this amounts to 3.030 agricultural and narrow-track tractors. In 2013, there were 94 more. In the 2 years before that, the sales figures moved around 2.700 units.
The high free potato prices in the 2016/2017 season and an improved milk price have undoubtedly had an effect on sales. We have already shown that a direct connection cannot be discovered. Sales figures in 2017 also ended higher in other European countries, such as Germany and France.
Top 3 unchanged
With a 1 year delay, Fedecom also publishes the sales figures broken down by brand. This shows that New Holland maintained its leading position in 2016, with 547 tractor units sold. John Deere follows with 487 units in 2nd place and Fendt is 365rd with 3 models. This means that the top 3 has lost something; John Deere with 62 tractors the most, followed by New Holland with 40 and Fendt with 12.
Case IH closely follows the Marktoberdorf brand with 321 tractors. A little below that are Massey Ferguson (288 units) and Deutz-Fahr (226 tractors). Furthermore, the top 11 is completed by Valtra (185), Claas (143), Steyr (64), Kubota (58) and Zetor (22).
Plus for Valtra
A number of brands are making a jump. Valtra leads that increase with a plus of 81 tractors. With that, the Finnish brand has finally come out of its low point in 2014. Massey Ferguson plus 47 tractors and Case IH 42 pieces. Claas gets the biggest blow with a minus of 72 tractors. Deutz-Fahr sold 28 fewer tractors.
